Founded in 1787, the College of Physicians of Philadelphia is the oldest medical institution of its kind in the United States. The College's By-Laws were, in fact, used in part by the American Medical Association for its own By-Laws at its inception. The tangible benefits of Fellowship are many, as you will note below, however the most important benefits of Fellowship are not included in that list since no monetary value can be placed on them. They are: the feeling of self-satisfaction in belonging to an organization that since its beginnings has worked for improving medical education, scientific medicine, and the public's health; the feeling as you enter the portals and walk the halls of this magnificent building – your building – and knowing they were once, and still are, home to some of Philadelphia's and the nation's finest and brightest physicians; it is knowing that by joining and supporting the College, you will be ensuring its initiatives for the good of society, and your successors, for years to come. None of these are tangible benefits, yet they are the benefits that motivate individuals to strive to become Fellows of this venerable institution.
